The SP3 Knowledge Base is Now Live
The SP3 team has been quietly working on a new SP3 Knowledge Base. This new Knowledge Base provides documentation of the broad technical foundation upon which SP3 is built (FEMA P-58, etc.). It also provides other background information and instructions for smooth and successful use of SP3 for resilient design and advanced seismic risk assessment. We hope you enjoy the ease of access to information and are able to find the answers you’re looking for!

SP3 Projects Webinar Series kicked off March 17th, ft Anne Hulsey
In this recording, invited speaker, Anne Hulsey, PhD of the University of Auckland, described a framework to assess the impact of safety cordons on post-earthquake building accessibility. Building-level performance assessments in this research are obtained through SP3-Batch. These individual building results are then combined via geospatial information, considering both regional-scale ground shaking and neighborhood-scale access restrictions.

New SP3 Project Case Studies Webinar Series – Announced March 11, 2021
New webinar series featuring examples of recent projects utilizing SP3 for resilient design and functional recovery recordings now available. Examples included the specifics of each project and showed how companies are leveraging SP3-Batch and the SP3-RiskModel to quantitively show the benefits of their resilient designs to their clients. Each session recording is followed by an interactive Q&A with the series moderator, Curt Haselton, and guest speakers from University of Auckland, Mar Structural Design, ZFA Structural Engineers, Forell | Elsesser Engineers, and KPFF Consulting Engineers.

SP3 Academic Guest Lecture: Stanford University
The SP3 team regularly gives guest lectures on the development and applications of SP3 to engineering students of all levels of study. Curt Haselton, PhD, PE had the pleasure of speaking to the Spring CE 288 class at Stanford University and helped them familiarize with resilient design. The SP3 Team happily provided a complimentary academic license for student use for the 2021 Spring semester of this class so students could implement resilient design in their class projects.

New Webinar Series on Modules within the newly-expanded SP3-Platform
The SP3 Team announced a new webinar series highlighting the various modules of the newly-expanded SP3-Platform. This Platform now enables consistent building-specific and site-specific seismic risk assessment for any level of building information. The SP3-RiskModel can be used for Express risk assessment models (with first-cut results literately in minutes), to Standard risk assessment models that are tailored for due-diligence risk assessment, all the way up to Advanced risk assessment models where the pencil can be sharpened on the larger projects that warrant it.

SP3 Webinar on “Quantifying Building Functional Recovery Time – New Developments and Ongoing Work”, presented by Dustin Cook
This webinar covered the current advancements to the FEMA P-58 method in quantifying post-earthquake building functional recovery (building closure time). Dustin Cook, PhD, from the University of Colorado Boulder, introduced a novel method for quantifying building-specific functional recovery using the FEMA P-58 framework, which includes time to reoccupancy, time to basic function, and time to full repair, all based on the FEMA P-58 process that provides component-level granularity for what aspects of structural and non-structural building damage impedes function.

New Resources Available for the Expanded SP3-Platform
The new SP3 website has been launched, to provide SP3 users with additional information about the various SP3 products, as well as additional technical training resources (papers, presentations, etc.). The SP3 team is also working on a new SP3 Knowledge Base that will be released this Spring, in order to provide additional technical documentation on SP3 and FEMA P-58 analysis methods.

Client Migrations Underway to Upgrade Clients from SP3-Design (v.2.6) to the new SP3-RiskModel Advanced!
Migrating appointments are underway for transitioning current SP3-Design clients to the new SP3-RiskModel Advanced, and will continue over the next year. One-on-one appointments will be scheduled with each of our clients and an SP3 Team Engineer to go over the upgrades in the new software and answer any questions. Customer support will be provided throughout this process to assist our clients until it’s time to retire SP3-Design.
