Curt Haselton and Jack Baker founded Haselton Baker Risk Group in 2014, after nearly two decades of working together to quantify and reduce earthquake risk — through fundamental research, technology transfer, and industry projects that put research tools to work in the real world.

Through that work, one gap kept appearing: advanced seismic risk assessment methods were rarely used in structural engineering practice, and the methods used in the insurance industry were class-based rather than building-specific. The knowledge existed. The tools for rapid assessment did not.

SP3 was created to close that gap — software that makes resilient design and advanced building-specific risk assessment practical, for any building.

When designers, owners, and insurers can comprehensively assess how a specific building will perform, seismic resilience goes up and risk decisions get better. That belief has driven the company since day one.
