Comparative Design Set Based on Original ASCE 7-05 Building Code Design (Before Supplement #2)

Due to the removal of the minimum base shear requirement, these buildings have substantially less lateral strength as compared to their ASCE7-02 counterparts (about ½ the strength for the 20-story buildings).

Note that the collapse capacities predicted by these models were used by the ASCE7 Seismic Subcommittee to inform their decision to reinstate the minimum base shear requirement (ASCE7-05 Supplement #2, 2007).
