SP3 Mentioned in June 2021 STRUCTURE Magazine

We’re please to announce SP3 has been mentioned in the June 2021 Tall Building issue of STRUCTURE Magazine.

This recognition can be found in the “Machine Learning Applications” article by Henry V. Burton, SE, PhD, and Michael Mieler, PhD on pages 16-19, along with a published advertisement for SP3.

SP3 White Paper on Functional Recovery for New Ca Housing Bill Now Available

The SP3 team recently released a white paper that examines post-earthquake recovery times for residential buildings in California.

Earthquake resilience, particularly Functional Recovery, has garnered significant attention in the California legislature, so the purpose of this white paper is to help California lawmakers (and residents) understand the resilience of California residential buildings, as they begin to consider Functional Recovery legislation.

New Webinar Presented by the USRC Featuring SP3 Co-Founder!

The USRC recently hosted Episode 7 in the Resilience Advantage webinar series, featuring SP3 work and ongoing work by many of our industry partners. This episode focuses on “The Science and Innovation of Resilience”, and features our own SP3 co-founder, Dr. Curt Haselton, along with other experts leading the charge for resilient design in the industry. The webinar aired on May 19, 2021 and included a 25 minute presentation on innovative solutions for resilience, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session (approximately 60 minutes).

SP3 Academic Guest Lecture: Texas A&M

The SP3 team regularly gives guest lectures on the development and applications of SP3 to engineering students of all levels of study. Curt Haselton, PhD, PE had the pleasure of speaking to the Engineering Risk Analysis class at Texas A&M and helped them familiarize with resilient design. The SP3 Team happily provided a complimentary academic license for student use for the 2021 Spring semester of this class so students could implement resilient design in their class projects.

The SP3 Knowledge Base is Now Live

The SP3 team has been quietly working on a new SP3 Knowledge Base. This new Knowledge Base provides documentation of the broad technical foundation upon which SP3 is built (FEMA P-58, etc.). It also provides other background information and instructions for smooth and successful use of SP3 for resilient design and advanced seismic risk assessment. We hope you enjoy the ease of access to information and are able to find the answers you’re looking for!

Recording Now Available For 3rd Webinar In The SP3 Projects Webinar Series, ft. Mark Moore, Tommy Sidebottom, Steve Marusich and Jessica Westermeyer

Invited speakers, Mark Moore, SE, LEEP AP and Tommy Sidebottom of ZFA Structural Engineers, Steve Marusich, SE of Forell | Elsesser Structural Engineers and Jessica Westermeyer, PE, SE of KPFF Consulting Engineers (Seattle), show that resilient design for Functional Recovery is not a future idea, but that it is being done now, and how they utilized SP3 to deliver quickly-functional buildings to their clients in the below presentation segments.

SP3 Projects Webinar Series kicked off March 17th, ft Anne Hulsey

In this recording, invited speaker, Anne Hulsey, PhD of the University of Auckland, described a framework to assess the impact of safety cordons on post-earthquake building accessibility.

Building-level performance assessments in this research are obtained through SP3-Batch. These individual building results are then combined via geospatial information, considering both regional-scale ground shaking and neighborhood-scale access restrictions.

New SP3 Project Case Studies Webinar Series – Announced March 11, 2021

New webinar series featuring examples of recent projects utilizing SP3 for resilient design and functional recovery recordings now available. Examples included the specifics of each project and showed how companies are leveraging SP3-Batch and the SP3-RiskModel to quantitively show the benefits of their resilient designs to their clients.

Each session recording is followed by an interactive Q&A with the series moderator, Curt Haselton, and guest speakers from University of Auckland, Mar Structural Design, ZFA Structural Engineers, Forell | Elsesser Engineers, and KPFF Consulting Engineers.

SP3 Academic Guest Lecture: Stanford University
