85 Bluxome is located in downtown San Francisco and is a 5-story steel frame building. The owner, Bluxome Partners, hired ZFA Structural Engineers and ZFA used SP3-Design (now SP3-RiskModel Advanced) to iteratively design their solution.
They selected a stiff 3-bay steel frame with SidePlate® and were ultimately able to stiffen the building — reducing the required seismic gap and expanding the leasable space — while providing resilient seismic performance.
This building was the first in San Francisco to be awarded a Gold rating from the USRC, with <10% loss and a one-month estimated recovery time after a design-level event.
